Whole Sky Light Shows

My meteorologist friend tells me we have up to eight more storms headed our way with the possibility of 5-10" more rain (!)...I miss the clear sky...and I love what the clouds give us as the sun rises and sets...all these photos are from today...

A Question of Privilege

I walk outside and look at the sky.  How is it that I am so fortunate to be here to see this every day...

Palm Desert Saturday

ah, sun at last...Palm Desert, a sort of extension of Palm Springs to its east a few miles, is a visual delight...bougainvillea, snowy mountains, everything green and shiny after so much rain...

El Paseo Drive, location of lots of galleries

Installation view, Copal Gallery:        60" x 36"  oil painting in center is  "Autumn River" by yours truly. On either side are drawings by Israel Levitan.  Red sculpture on table is by Rik Phillips.  Owner Alicia Armstrong likes to display art as it would look in a home, which makes her gallery welcoming, attractive and delightfully unusual.  A show with a lot of my work will be opening there during the February El Paseo ArtWalk , which is happening on Thursday, February 4, from 5pm to 9pm. I'll be there — everyone is welcome!

Dreaming

More rain and wind.  I find myself dreaming of the warm sun.

Storms Continue

Rain all day. Wind-torn clouds at dusk.  Snow predicted tonight.

Seaside

Rain all night and still raining...in my one story no-attic house I have surround sound of the constant tapping of the drops on the roof...Wednesday morning when the clouds let the sun through and the wind came up it seemed to smell like the ocean...

Rain and a Rainbow

Art is not to do with the practical side of making a living. It's to live a fuller human life.                 — Henry Moore
(quoted in The Palm Springs Art Museum's weekly events bulletin)

Heavy rain for over 2 hours as it gets dark.  Rare and wonderful.

Rain Coming

In anticipation of the storms predicted for this week I planted carrots and kale, and as I sit down to write it is just starting to rain.  Very exciting.

Kwan Yin with Arms

In Chinatown, Los Angeles, just before the New Year, we saw this old wooden carving, which the proprietor of the store told us was Kwan Yin. This is the first time I have seen her depicted with many arms, although apparently it is quite common in China.

Sunday was the final day of my show at True World Gallery.  Yesterday I went to take down the show. Here is the gallery with curator and co-owner, Bonnie Kopp out front.

Happy New Year 2010!

"We shall not cease from exploration.

And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And to know the place for the first time."

- T.S. Eliot
