Thresholds

...99.9% of fear is mere superstition and completely unnecessary.
Although we believe fear is essential in order to motivate us
and to keep us safe, it is in fact a poor substitute for
inspiration, knowledge and intuition.

This image is a preview of work exhibited in a group show at Esther Shaw's Spezzano Gallery in Long Beach throught March 13th.  The show includes work by Spelman Downer, Esther Shaw, Paul Metvier and Bob Pece.

More February Flowers

February Flowers

this morning I went out to photograph the green leaves coming out all over the little peach tree and discovered flower buds about to open...

and then there are the Blanket Flowers, which have been blooming all winter this year...these grew from a drought tolerant wildflower seed mix that I brought from Colorado where they grew at 9000' elevation during the short mountain summers...I didn't know if they would tolerate the heat here, but no problem!  I gave them water once every two months last year...

Intuition

Desert Garden

today I planted zuchini seeds and seeds from a small round melon I bought at the Farmers' Market last summer... and lettuce and red chard seeds...none of these will live through a frost, I'm hoping it stays mild...if not I will cover them...

tiny (about 1/4" across) kale sprouts coming up through light mulch from seeds planted just before all the rain

collard greens still producing huge leaves from seeds planted last August...delicious braised with red onions and chicken...the red onion seeds I planted in the fall are doing well, too...the ground is so lovely and damp...
