these trees, also called Yucca Pines, stay green all winter

where I live, they are sparse, only 1-2 to an acre...this is the sole Joshua Tree on "my" 2 1/2 acres...

a nearby "dead" one looking like a strange creature as it dissolves back into the earth...

Joshua Trees are particular about altitude, and in areas that are a bit higher, there are a "forests" of Joshua Trees, as here in Pipes Canyon, where the foothills of the San Bernardino mountains begin...
